About Us
OSI at a Glance
The Oromo Sisterhood Institute (OSI) is a women-led organization focusing on unity, empowerment, and solidarity. It was established as a pilot project in April 2021 by a small group of like-minded Oromo individuals across the globe. Our initial focus was assisting small-scale projects by providing short-term financial support. Some of our projects included assisting war-affected families and women in the military and providing small monetary incentives for start-up businesses. Our commitment to fostering political, social, and economic engagement among women underscores the importance of inclusivity and collaboration in building a better society.
After the pilot phase and project analysis, it became apparent to align the focus to the initial mission of empowering Oromo women. As a result, the transition from the Oromo Sisterhood Project Group (OSPG) to the Oromo Sisterhood Institute (OSI) was necessary. The rebranding took place in April 2024. Overall, OSI’s goal, mission, and vision embody the essence of collective women empowerment and resilience, making it a beacon of hope and progress for women within the Oromo community and beyond.
Furthermore, the shared goal of the Oromo struggle – dedication to elevating and preserving Oromummaa and supporting the freedom and independence of the Oromo people demonstrates a strong sense of cultural identity and advocacy for justice and equality.
We believe in partnering with other organizations to leverage diverse expertise perspectives and highlights to maximize the impact of our efforts.
