Focus

Our Focus Areas

A significant portion of the population in Oromia and neighboring countries experience economic hardship, living below the poverty line. The nations have limited access to resources like education, healthcare, transportation, proper sanitation, etc., and face other serious challenges. This is usually due to natural disasters, conflicts, and other emergencies. The nation requires multifaceted approaches and targeted support, resources, and collaborative initiatives from various stakeholders to improve the quality of life and growth opportunities for sustainable developments. Providing effective assistance requires understanding the community’s culture, politics, beliefs, and needs to make an impactful change. Support, Education, and Advice are the three main areas OSI focuses on.

Support

First thing First! Focus on the immediate relief to save lives! Provide emergency funds, medical assistance, and relief materials during crises like natural disasters, wars, and facilitate health emergencies. Supply food, clean water, shelter, medicines, and healthcare to address immediate survival needs.

Community organization! Encourage community members to come together, form groups to advocate and voice their concerns collectively on issues that matter or areas of shared interest. Unity often brings strength in identifying the root cause, negotiating for better conditions and implementing positive transformations.

Education

Political awareness – involves educating the nation, providing access to information, and creating dialogue with various community members to increase engagement on various all inclusive platforms for discussions that will lead to impactful changes in the society. This also will provide an opportunity to educate about broader societal issues. Political awareness helps individuals understand their rights and entitlements, ensuring they can demand fair treatment. It not only allows them to demand change and justice but also enables them to actively engage in a discussion that is meaningful, realistic, and leads to workable solutions. Workshops, seminars, community meetings, and outreach programs can contribute to enhancing political awareness within a community. It’s about equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools to navigate political systems and advocate for their rights.

Cultural preservation is important and a heritage for future generations! This is especially true within marginalized or economically disadvantaged communities. Preserving cultural heritage helps maintain a sense of identity, fosters community cohesion, and can serve as a source of pride and strength. Encouraging pride in cultural heritage and history. Celebrating traditions can build a sense of identity and community strength.

Promote self sustainability initiatives – microloans for startups of small businesses; agricultural developments for sustainable farming methods; and healthcare initiatives are some of the examples that can be mentioned.

Establish educational programs: assist with setting up schools, community centers, or mobile educational units to provide basic literacy, numeracy, and vocational skills training in marginalized areas. The objective is to keep the education system running and the students in school regardless of what is happening on the ground – conflict, natural disasters, and medical emergencies for the most part.
